Vintage Computers

Preserving our Computing Heritage

I have a number of vintage computers in a collection spanning the 1980s to the present. Initially including primarily Apple computers, but recently I have been acquiring other brands from the 80’s.

My first bought computer was a Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48K in January 1985. I had worked all Summer in the Army kitchens of Waiouru to save up for the NZ$400 computer. With two friends, I took a bus to Levin and purchased the Speccy. However, I didn’t have enough money for the required cassette tape drive, until one of my friends offered to buy it for me. My other friend and I spent many hours typing in programmes from magazines and renting games to play.

My current catalogue of vintage computers (non-Apple) now include:

  • Sinclair ZX81
  • Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48K (my original plus another)
  • Sinclair ZX Spectrum +2  (made by Amstrad)
